When I first heard about Moudifa the Musical, I knew it was going to be something special. More than a stage play, it’s a heartfelt tribute to every Filipina who has ever left home to chase dreams, serve others, and redefine strength in a world far from her own.
What is “Moudifa”?
The word Moudifa (or Mudifa) comes from the Arabic word مدیفة, meaning “servicewoman” or “attendant.” In aviation, it refers to a flight attendant — someone who not only serves but ensures safety and comfort while soaring through the skies.
In this story, Moudifa Atyara in Saudi represents a Filipina flight attendant working in the Middle East — a symbol of thousands of Filipino women who have ventured abroad to seek better lives for their families, carrying with them faith, dignity, and hope.
The musical is based on the best-selling book “Moudifa!: Culture Shock from the Top” by Margarita Marquis, a Filipina author, entrepreneur, and artist whose own experiences abroad inspired this touching story.
The Heart of the Musical
Moudifa the Musical was created to empower women and inspire compassion through art. Its mission is simple yet powerful — to honor the courage of overseas Filipinas and celebrate Filipino creativity on stage.
Through music and storytelling, the production reminds us that courage, compassion, and art can unite and uplift humanity.
The Story of Moudifa
Set in the 1980s, the musical follows a Filipina flight attendant working in Saudi Arabia as she navigates love, heartbreak, and rediscovery. The story unfolds through two timelines — the younger Moudifa, played by VIVA Artist Jassy Calupitan, and the older Moudifa, portrayed by Angie Bonnevie of RJ & The New Riots.
Her emotional journey is shaped by four men —
– The Pilot (Ryle Mendez), her great love.
– The French Man (Ferdie Petrasanta), who opens her eyes to new worlds.
– The Prince (Yuan Fuerte), a reminder that not all fairy tales last.
– The Football Player (Genesis Delos Santos), symbolizing strength and loyalty.
The story blends soulful OPM ballads and Middle Eastern-inspired melodies — all written and composed by Margarita Marquis — capturing every shade of Moudifa’s journey: innocence, heartbreak, and triumph.
The Visionaries Behind the Curtain
The brainchild of Margarita Marquis, Moudifa the Musical is directed by Jag Cruz, founder of Influencers Watchlist, Sine Shorts Film Fest, and Music Fan Fest. Cruz is an internationally awarded filmmaker, known for his short film Nightlife, recognized in Sweden and the U.S.
The production is line produced by Nette S. Muescan and Mabuhay PH Digital Network, which also handles event production and coordination.
More Than a Show — A Movement
Moudifa the Musical isn’t just about one woman’s story. It’s about every Filipina who dared to dream beyond borders, who faced challenges with courage, and who continues to inspire with grace.
As Marquis beautifully puts it:
“Moudifa is not just my story — it’s every Filipina’s story. It’s a tribute to all women who have sacrificed comfort for family, love, and purpose. Through music and art, we remind them of their worth.”
With its tagline —
“Empowered woman by courage. Defined by dreams. A Filipina’s journey beyond borders.”
Moudifa the Musical is poised to touch hearts, spark conversations, and remind the world that the Filipina spirit is one that never stops soaring.
