Cinemalaya rundown 2016

Back for another round of Philippine cinema reelness, it’s that time of the year when cinephiles flock the glorious halls of the Cultural Center of the Philippines to come together for most-awaited independent film festival in the country, Cinemalaya. Now on its 12th run, the movie fest is set to break the surface with a total of nine full-length films and ten short features slated for your viewing pleasure. It’s never too late to get into the craze, so here’s a quick rundown of the entries to get you excited.

FULL LENGTH CATEGORY:

ANG BAGONG PAMILYA NI PONCHING 

Starring indie movie favorites Janus Del Prado and Ketchup Eusebio, the film follows a religious criminal’s mishap as his text scam goes wrong when he accidentally gets mistaken for the bastard child of a recipient’s late relative.

GENRE: Dark Comedy, Light Family Drama

Helmed by director Atom Magadia, the drama explores the life of Martial Law survivor Justino after his beliefs on the after life changes when his beloved wife dies.

 Confined in the corners of the home for the aged, four men in their twilight years find themselves haunted by their pasts as their inevitable deaths draw closer and closer.

Directed by Ivan Andrew Payawal, this dramedy tells the tale of a half-Pinay, half-Caucasian lady looking for American living in Olongapo City, who eventually finds herself on a quest to find her biological father.

With David Corpuz and Cenon Palomares on directorial duties, Kusina dives into the life and love of Juanita, which is her kitchen, where coincidentally most of her fascinating stories come from.

With a cast led by Allen Dizon and Gold Azeron, Lando at Bugoy shares the heart-warming story of a father and son whose relationship is on the rocks.

Follow the interesting tale of Carmen, a middle-aged cook who meets and Mercury, an American teenage boy. When the two eventually cross paths, both of them find themselves in need of one another for survival.
